The Lord’s Taverners continue to change lives with another successful Table Cricket delivery to the Vista Nova Primary School in Rondebosch.
The table was funded by SED – Shout Electronic Displays – during the UK Lord’s Taverners’ visit in March 2020. Steve Palframan, the former South African wicket-keeper and owner of SED, was on hand during the presentation.
Visa Nova caters for chronically-ill children and children with special education needs, and having Table Cricket at their school means they will be able to participate in a competitive sport, which for many of them would otherwise not be possible.
During a Table Cricket match, pupils are placed at strategic points around the table to perform their roles as fielders while one player takes his place at the crease at the head of the table, and faces six balls in an innings, trying to score as many “runs” by aiming for points.
The Lord’s Taverners originated in the UK with the sole purpose of raising money to give children with disabilities the opportunity to be involved in sport and share the love of the game of cricket.
A R 10 000 donation covers the cost of the table and the coaching to learn the game. If you are interested in sponsoring a school or getting involved with the Lord’s Taverners Table Cricket initiative, please contact David Ralph by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
